Sgùrr Breac & A’ Chailleach, and Kingussie Crag, 10 July 2025

Sgùrr Breac & A’ Chailleach

There were 4 humans including 2 prospective members and one four legs at the start, Richard, May, Emma, Greg and of course Orla.

It was a gloomy 9am start at first, with cloud covering at least the top few hundred metres of the two Munros. However, great company and plenty of motivational cuteness from Orla made for a steady climb along the ridge into the cloud to reach Tomain Coinich. Here you could really start to feel the force of the wind. At this point an initial drop eastward to the bealach was followed by a climb to the first Munro of the day, Sgùrr Breac. Luck was on our side, so that as we reached the summit cairn, the gusts of wind shifted the cloud, allowing spectacular views of Loch Fannich to pierce through.

After a spot of lunch, we retraced our steps westward back along the ridge to Tomain Coinich, continuing further west to reach the summit of A' ChailleachUnfortunately, we weren't so lucky with the views here, but the power of the wind could really be felt on top. However, this was made up for by the weather clearing on the northern descent across the ridge. You could see panoramic views of An Teallach, Fisherfield, Slioch, most of Torridon and even the west coast. The rest of the day had great weather, which made the steep descent into the corrie a lot easier. After a quick river crossing we descended down the boggy wetlands toward Loch A'Bhraoin, which would be best described as very slippery (don't worry, I won't mention the names of those who slipped up more than once). The day ended with the final stretch along the loch back to the starting point.

It was a great day out, made even better by the lovely company. Big thanks to Richard, May, Emma and of course, Orla. Look forward to meeting yourselves and the rest of the club in future meet ups!

Kingussie Crag

After cancelling the meet on Saturday due to rain and wind Sunday proved to be a perfect weather day for climbing, some warm sunshine, a breeze to keep the midges away and no rain!

Martin, Emma, Stela and Martyn decided to start the day with some sport climbs on the Tree Slabs, nice, straight forward routes, good to warm up on. Martyn’s 30m rope proved to be just long enough.

Martin and Emma then tackled routes on Marvel Butress whilst Stela and Martyn climbed a route on DC Crag finishing at the top of Wonder Woman. Martin led The Wasp, and the rest of the group seconded it, a challenging route. Other routes climbed included Thor: Son of Odin and some trad routes: Dr Strange and Captain America.

An excellent day on rock.
