An Coileachan and Meall Gorm
The weather forecast was not promising at all, showers of rain, hail and snow, poor visibility and the possibility of thunder. However, three members, Ryan, May and Martyn decided to go and see.
The weather at the car park was good so far and the team set off through a woodland and down to a bridge over the Abhainn a’ Ghiughais, a boggy walk then led to a second bridge and then more wet path and pathless moorland over the shoulder of Meallan Buidhe. A Black Grouse was sighted on the way. Finally, the ascent of An Coileachan was started with the company of a Ptarmigan. Near the top a horizontal snow shower came to give the team company. Shelter was sought at the summit and first lunch was taken.
The shower abated and the skies cleared to give excellent views in the clear air. The next Munro, Meall Gorm was then tackled. The weather remained good until the summit when the clouds rolled in. Second lunch was taken at the stone shelter. Again, the weather cleared.
The decent via the back wall of the corrie below Bealach Ban crossed an old cornice and more boggy ground. A rainbow appeared beneath us pointing the way back. Good views over to Beinn Dearg were had. Eventually the path was gained to return to the car park.
Overall, there was much more dry weather than rain and we didn’t hear any thunder.
